Boasting unobstructed views of neighbouring Bishan, this multigenerational home conceals an elegant, homely interior behind its imposing façade. Floor-to-ceiling curtains and shutters hide the private living spaces on upper floors, from which Veil House derives its name.
The façade features a number of privacy screens on each floor. The ground floor hides the living, dining and dry kitchen areas with a perforated metal screen, complimented by an additional set of curtains for a multi-layered appearance that ensures optimal privacy. Above it, an open window hidden from the street by the car porch roof invites in light, ensuring the living room is well lit. On the upper floors, the full height windows are fitted with a pair of translucent and opaque curtains or adjustable shutters, dynamically adjustable to fit the homeowners’ needs. The attic floor features a unique outdoor planter, forming a natural green wall and hinting to the more relaxed, intimate setting these various veils hide.
Veil House’s living spaces are a stark contrast to its rawer, imposing front. Warm interior lighting supplemented by natural light creates an intimate, homely tone. Geometric lights hang over a double volume living room with concealed lighting adding a subtle touch to the television console. The furniture is tactfully chosen in bright colours, adding visual interest while maintaining the overall feel. Timber flooring used in each bedroom reflects the light filtering through the many windows, adding further warmth to each private living space. In the bathrooms, polished, neutral stones and tiles are chosen to create a clean appearance.
